Bling Bling
I've recently rediscovered my desire to make and design jewelry. It's been lost for a while. I've been to the bead store a few times in the past couple of weeks, and I've been making a few things again. I've had to buy new tools, the old ones are MIA. There is nothing as cool as creating something that is exactly to your specifications and having someone compliment you on it and ask where you got it. I've been thinking about all the awesome places my parents have taken me that have nurtured this desire. I have a 12 carat star cut topaz (state stone of course) that I mined in Colorado and quite a few rough uncut stones I haven't had faceted yet. I've also made a few trips to Montana for sapphires (my birthstone). I have a wonderful ring my parents had made for me from some of the sapphires we found, three stones, each one a different shade of blue. My next field trip I want to go on is to Mason county here in Texas. I'd love to find a topaz here and have it cut in the official star cut (spoiled, I know). I spent half my day yesterday looking for cool rocks to polish and make beads out of. I usually get bored quickly with everything I get interested in, but this is something that has managed to stick with me since I was a child, so I suppose I should hang in there for the long haul.
