PhotoDocumentary TIME!!!
I haven't even gotten around to talking about my fantastic trip to Big Bend yet, so I am now. The first night we went to this awesome bar, La Kiva and watched a live band named 'to be announced'. They played Gringo Honeymoon so they were badass in my book of course. The next day we went to the Hot Springs on the Rio Grande in the park to do some serious stratigraphic mapping...

We were dead tired when we got back that night, but it didn't keep us from drinking, not much does. The next day we went to these abandoned Mercury mines. They were awesome. We dropped two rocks down this shaft and NEVER heard them hit bottom...

There was this kick-ass rusted out old car down my the mine dump...

Every morning when we woke up it was 37 degrees, cloudy, with a wind chill of about 20 degrees. It would clear off around noon and then the most beautiful sunsets would end the day...

Then there was "a bad moon on the rise"

The last day of the trip was our token 'fun day'. We spent the day Canoeing 3 miles up the Rio Grande into Santa Elena Canyon...

About a mile upstream we passed Smuggler's Cave...

once we reached our destination, our guides had a meal set up for us. After lunch we waded across the river (YES IT WAS COLD) into Mexico to hike up Fern Canyon. It was absolutely breathtaking. I will never as long as I live forget this experience, and I will do it again.
This was a bit of a tight squeeze...

This is what we dubbed "The Mexican Rebirth." You come out soaking wet, but it was priceless!

Ok so this took a bit of skill too...

There were pools like this EVERYWHERE in the canyon.

The last beautiful sunset of the trip...

VIVA TERLINGUA!!!
